Under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist, Pharmacy Interns will assist in providing pharmaceutical services through a wide range of professional and technical activities necessary to serve the needs of the patients, physicians, hospital staff and the community. The scope of these activities will always be within the law and in accordance with the Wisconsin Pharmacy Examining Board.

The activities are as follows:

  1. Interview patients and/or accesses other sources (physician or pharmacy records) to obtain medication histories.
  2. Performs medication and prescription fiscal reviews.
  3. Perform drug information retrieval and drug evaluations. 
  4. Assists pharmacists with maintaining and monitoring patient profiles.
  5. Receive and interpret medication/prescription orders and enters them into the pharmacy computer system.
  6. Provides medication information and education to medical staff and patients.
  7. Perform medication checking for first dose, cart fill, and medication cabinet dispensing out of the pharmacy, except for controlled substances and compounded sterile and non-sterile products.
  8. Triage phone calls from nursing staff and offer solutions to medication related concerns.
  9. Prepare medications for dispensing
  10. Assist pharmacy technicians with sterile and non-sterile compounding. 
  11. Performs technical duties related to medication ordering, receipt, stocking and inventory control.
  12. Performs technical duties and documentation related to controlled substance stocking or dispensing.
  13. Performs clerical duties in the pharmacy to ensure efficient operations.
Education: Be formally enrolled in a Doctor of Pharmacy Program that is accredited by Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) at the time of hire and maintain the appropriate progress toward successful completion and state licensure as a Registered Pharmacist;
Experience Required: Entry Level
Certification/Licensure Required for the Job: Minimum - Eligible to work as a pharmacy intern in the state of Wisconsin
