Mission or Goal of Unit: Advance the patient care, Research, and Education Missions of the academic medical center in the areas of Hematology, Oncology, and Palliative Care.
Chief Purpose of this position: The VCU School of Medicine Division of Hematology, Oncology & Palliative Care is seeking a faculty member with research experience utilizing advanced molecular techniques. The faculty member will utilize cutting-edge molecular techniques, murine models and experience working in the area of basic/translational lymphoma research as well as examining dysregulation of signal transduction and translation in lymphoma and related diseases.
Position Responsibilities:
Research | Conducts research involving the investigation of molecularly targeted agents in hematologic malignancies. Specifically, the faculty member will conduct studies to develop new therapeutic strategies that target important genetically abnormal pathways in lymphoid malignancies, with the ultimate goal of developing a rational basis for a new therapies. They will also assist in the training of graduate and medical students, as well as residents and fellows, rotating through the laboratory.
Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree with postdoctoral research experience utilizing advanced molecular techniques
- Experience working in the area of translational studies aimed at developing a basis for using novel signal transduction and other targeted agents in the treatment of hematologic malignancies, particularly in the areas of lymphoma and related diseases
- Successful publication record demonstrated by being a first author on multiple publications in peered-reviewed scientific journals
- Ability to train others to perform advanced molecular biology techniques
- Ability to design, conduct and supervise a research project
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
- Experience in stable and transient gene transfection, kinase assays, immunoprecipitation assays, lymphoma biology, the DNA damage response, apoptosis regulation, genetic engineering, and animal models (e.g., xenograft)
