Reports to: Director and/or Crew Leader

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Salary $23.02 an hour

GENERAL SUMMARY:  Expected to learn procedures, rules, operations, equipment, tools and duties of this department. 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Learn the functions, and procedures of the Water and Sewer Departments. 
  • Learn how to inspect, install and repair water mains, valves, fire hydrants, sewer mains and basins.
  • Learn how to operate the functions of all heavy equipment, trucks, power tools, hand tools and any and all support equipment.
  • Learn to read and work with blue prints, water and sewer atlas, valve book and light control box book.
  • Learn to install and repair street light poles, fixtures and wiring.
  • Learn how to maintain and repair streets, sidewalks and curbs.
  • Learn how to trim and cut down trees.
  • Learn and develop skills and knowledge to communicate and respond to residents. 

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Successful completion of local Civil Service testing and requirements.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (must be insurable by the Village’s insurance carrier)
  • Must be able to read & write English  
  • Required to obtain CDL within six months of hire date.
  • Work a minimum of 40 hour week (or 20 hrs PT) with mandatory alternating periods of on-call overtime. 
  • Available to work overtime during varying peak work seasons

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: 

  • Successful completion of a six (6) month probationary period.
  • Successful completion of a drug screening and physical 
  • Must pass criminal background check, reference check and security clearance.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT: 

  • Ability to withstand inclimate weather (extreme heat and cold)
  • Ability to work around fumes, dirt, dust and other such conditions
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, climb, sit and reach routinely
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. routinely, over 50 lbs. occasionally
  • The job incumbent should take scheduled breaks, practice proper body alignment and alert supervisor of any discomfort, as necessary.
