Job Description
The Department of Art & Design at the University of Missouri – St. Louis invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor who will teach in the Graphic Design emphasis area. This is a non-tenure-track, 9-month full-time position, and is non-renewable.
The BFA in Art with an emphasis in Graphic Design is a progressive and well-established program housed within the Department of Art & Design. The Department seeks a graphic design educator who will bring exceptional visual and critical abilities to its students and whose professional trajectory embraces innovation in teaching and mentorship.
Students in the Graphic Design emphasis are encouraged to explore traditional and emerging media and ideas across disciplines of art and design. The ideal candidate would excel in the foundational principles and formal methodologies of graphic design, engage innovative teaching methods, and inspire students to become design leaders. The candidate will have a workload equivalent of four classes per semester; however, one workload unit per semester will be dedicated to internship development and student mentorship. The successful candidate will have experience teaching, mentoring, and supporting the success of students from a wide range of diverse backgrounds and will have attained a level of professional achievement in graphic design. Qualifications
Minimium Required
• MFA or equivalent terminal degree in Graphic Design, or significant tested professional experience
• Record of teaching graphic design principles and skills
• Expertise with digital technologies and programs required to teach undergraduate curriculum
Candidate will be evaluated on
• Professional design portfolio
• Strength in logo design, branding and typography
• Strength in illustration, animation or 3-D design
• Strength in design writing
• Familiarity with user-centered design concepts
• Experience designing for desktop, tablet, and mobile devices

The position runs a typical academic year, from approximately August 15, 2023 through May 15, 2024 and is an on-campus position. Specific hire dates to be determined by contract.
