TOWN PLANNER

The Town of Mashpee welcomes applications for the position of Town Planner. This is a full time position, 40 hours/week, Monday through Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm; salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Under the direction of the Town Manager and Planning Board the Town Planner provides professional, technical and management services in administering planning functions to balance growth with development or redevelopment and open space protection/preservation consistent with the vison and goals defined in the Town’s long-range plans. The Town Planner shall plan, coordinate, organize, manage and direct the activities of the Town’s planning efforts to achieve its growth objectives while prioritizing the preservation of community character. The Town Planner performs complex and highly responsible duties requiring a very high level of initiative and independent judgment in the planning, administration and execution of the department's programs and services, in providing professional advice and technical assistance to the Planning Board, Historic District Commission or Town Manager and to other Town officials, boards or committees as directed or required. Directs personnel and is required to work independently in formulating decisions regarding department policies, procedures, operations and plans in the administration of policies, goals, regulations, and statutory requirements related to planning and development for the Town.

Bachelor’s degree in community planning or closely related field; two or more years of progressively responsible experience in the planning field, preferably in a municipal setting; experience in the planning and programming of land use and community development programs; experience in subdivision review, zoning, grant applications and preparation of Requests for Proposals; or any equivalent combination of education, training or experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the job. Certification by American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) preferred. Must possess a valid MA driver’s license (Class D). Must successfully pass a comprehensive background check.
