Job Summary:
The Outreach Coordinator/Advisor serves as the primary outreach coordinator for the Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR). The Coordinator/Advisor collaborates with departments and units, including class visits and student groups, to set up and conduct information sessions explaining OURs programs and how to get involved. The Coordinator/Advisor also serves as a primary advisor for students applying for OUR grant funding, working with students to help them find lab opportunities, develop research projects, and write grant proposals. Assists with executing communications strategies, including flyering, drafting advertising, and leading content development and social media posting (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn).
**PLEASE NOTE:This is a 10 month position with opportunity for renewal. Must be recent Northwestern graduate.

- Meets with students one-on-one to help them discern their interests in undergraduate research, guides them to appropriate programs, and works with them on developing their application materials. Advising will range from helping students to use existing resources to find lab placements to reviewing multiple drafts of grant proposals before a deadline. Host weekly drop-in hours to meet with students for "bite-sized advising" ranging from 5-15 minutes in length discussing any topic within regular advising accountabilities. This work will be heaviest in winter quarter.
- Schedule and complete class visits. This quarterly task is a primary aspect of outreach where you email and schedule physical (or virtual) visits to classes across campus in order to increase awareness of the office and its offerings. Flyer relevant fliers and physical advertisements from the office across campus. Work with the Education Program Manager to facilitate variety of workshops and info sessions throughout the year as needed, anticipate at least 1 a week. Organize (tailored) info sessions for student groups, individual classes (during Class Visits), residential colleges, other offices, and specific departments. Sometimes these sessions are scheduled upon request or a smaller part of another office/department/program's info session. Participate in Resource/Opportunity fairs across campus. This occurrence is heaviest in early Fall.
- Collaborate with office staff on implementing communication strategies. Identify, collect, and create Student/Faculty Feature post representation across all grant programs to post students at least once a week. Primary responsibility over social media sites like Instagram and Facebook, specifically Twitter. Work closely with the Program Administrator in order to ensure posting to social media 3 times/week. Design meme, posts, and flyers as needed, primarily on the Canva Graphic Design Platform.
- Completes other duties as assigned by the Director and Associate Director, including support and planning for the annual Undergraduate Research and Arts Exposition
- Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education and training from which comparable skills may be acquired
- Experience with undergraduate research
- Recent Northwestern graduate
- Excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility, and ability to interact productively with faculty, administrative staff, and students
- Familiarity with the University's institutional structure and sensitivity to its mission
- Ability to handle confidential information appropriately, and to use good judgment in making decisions
- Ability to write well
- Service-oriented attitude to assisting staff, faculty and students
- Experience doing research using the Web and other sources
- Background/major in a lab-based research field, such as biology, psychology, etc.
- Experience leading information sessions/group meetings
- Experience with web writing, and social media, such as collecting student stories and optimizing social media audience reach
- Experience organizing events
