General Summary:
The position of Family Medicine Faculty requires three core competencies: Teaching/Scholarly Activity; Patient Care; and Administration. Specific job responsibilities and expectations are outlined below. The position is full-time, with "full time" defined as a minimum of forty (40) hours per week, exclusive of call responsibilities. The responsibilities outlined below are intended to be flexible as needed to meet the needs of the Residency Program, Mercy Clinic South and the Faculty Member.
TEACHING/SCHOLARLY ACTIVITY:
You will perform the following responsibilities as defined and required by the Family Medicine Residency Program Director ("Program Director"):
- Provide direct teaching and staffing, including procedural and obstetrical skill supervision as qualified. These duties will require five (5) half days per Week on average.
- Precept residents and medical students at the Family Practice Center ("FPC").
- Precept residents and medical students at various nursing homes, at the HealthNet free clinic, during home visits ("house calls") and in other outpatient venues.
- Supervise the Family Medicine inpatient service on a rotating basis with the other faculty, including rounds on maternity care patients and newborns. You agree that when supervising the Family Medicine inpatient service, You will generally be present in the hospital during normal daytime hours, and will otherwise be available as needed to ensure appropriate supervision of residents in the hospital setting.
- Provide call coverage, including obstetrical care, for the residency program and clinic practice on a rotating basis with the other faculty.
- Provide Scholarly Activities as outlined in the "Program Requirements for Residency Education in Family Medicine."
- Present lectures to the residents as part of the residents' didactic curriculum.
- Complete research and scholarly activity as needed by the program to fulfill the accreditation requirements of the Residency Review Committee-Family Medicine and as defined by the interests of the faculty member. You shall receive one (1) half day per week on average of protected time to accomplish these scholarly functions.
PATIENT CARE:
- Providing professional medical patient care services by interviewing, examining and treating of clinical patients in order to meet their medical needs. Providing obstetrical care as needed.
- Determining which referrals are required based on examination and patient needs and determined level of urgency of follow-up and referral. Complying with the system referral policy and procedure.
- Educating patients on wellness, prevention and early detection by providing materials and resources to the patients and families.
- Prescribing medical treatment and clinical drugs to patients, as needed and appropriate.
- Ordering studies, test and ancillary services, as needed and appropriate.
- Documenting all services in patient medical record in a timely manner including using electronic medical record systems.
- Consulting with other medical staff, Medical Directors, and other healthcare professionals as needed regarding patient care, assessment, and education issues.
- Participating in quality improvement, management, continuing education, and other patient care programs established by the hospital or clinic requirements.
- Collaborating with other providers and healthcare team members.
- Assisting in the resolution of complaints, requests, and inquiries from patients.
- Maintaining confidentiality of all patient information according to federal guidelines and regulations.
ADMINISTRATION:
You will perform the following responsibilities as defined and required by the Program Director:
- Help insure the program's compliance with ACGME requirements for residency education.
- Help ensure the program's compliance with the various payor requirements, such as with the Medicare teaching requirements.
- Promote the economic concerns and strive to achieve the financial goals of the residency, FPC, and Mercy Health System in general.
- Act as a role model for the residents with regard to patient care and professional behavior.
- Promote collegiality within the residency, with other members of the medical staff and with members of Mercy Health System administration.
- Work with the designated health system leaders to provide input into the budgets, capital expenditures, strategic planning, and marketing.
- Assist in recruitment of additional physicians and health care team members to their department or area as requested.
- May become involved in community activities and community health education and promotion.
