Haverford College invites applications for a two-year Visiting Assistant Professor in Indigenous Studies in the Department of English. The position begins on July 1, 2024 for the fall semester 2024.

The Department of English at Haverford College invites applications for a two-year Visiting Assistant Professor in Indigenous Studies with a focus on literature, cultural expression, film studies, and/or media studies. Possible additional areas of focus might include (but are not limited to) comparative approaches to Indigeneity; decolonial theory and methods; climate and health justice; land back movements, sovereignty, and Indigenous political theory; gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, and Indigeneity. Applicants whose courses might contribute to interdisciplinary programs in Environmental Studies, Health Studies, Visual Studies, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Comparative Literature, and/or Peace, Justice, and Human Rights are especially encouraged to apply.

This is a full-time position with a teaching load equivalent to five courses across the year. Ideal candidates will be able to teach Introduction to Indigenous Literatures as well as a range of other courses at the 100-, 200-, and 300-level. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate a commitment to engaging a diverse student body and creating an inclusive classroom environment in a liberal arts context. In their cover letter, candidates should describe 1-2 courses they might teach as well as their approach to inclusive pedagogy. The position begins on July 1, 2024 for the fall semester 2024; candidates should expect to be on campus by August 26th, 2024. Candidates who are ABD may be considered but must have Ph.D. in hand by the start date.
