About the Department:

BMED offers a graduate certificate program that helps students prepare for, gain admission to, and succeed in health professional schools including medicine, dentistry, PA, and other tracks.

About the Position:

The Instructor position supports instructional faculty in delivering classes and assisting students in improving study skills and learning graduate biomedical concepts needed for success in the health professions. Additionally, the position assists the program in advising and logistic activities needed for program operations.

Responsibilities:

This full-time position, beginning mid-August 2024, is an opportunity for an energetic and talented scholar who is interested in further developing their teaching skills by working with students enrolled in a biomedical graduate certificate program.

Specific duties include but are not limited to:
  • Conducting in person and online recitations, reviews, and facilitated learning sessions;
  • Providing classroom and online technical, administrative, and teaching support for course directors;
  • Assisting the Program Director and Assistant Director in administration of the program including data management;
  • Participating in the planning and execution of student activities outside of the classroom;
  • Provide logistic and other support for invited speakers, recruiters, and other visitors; and
  • Advising and teaching students on academic and professional development matters.
Required Qualifications:
  • Successful completion of an M.S. in physiology or a related field prior to the start date of the position;
  • Several years of experience in a clinical setting appropriate for professional school preparation;
  • Successful performance on standardized tests;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of advanced biomedical science;
  • Demonstrated skills and the ability to assist and help students who have encountered academic difficulty as undergraduates; and
  • Ability to understand the specific reasons for student academic struggles and an appreciation of a diversity of backgrounds, learning styles, and approaches to improved academics.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Some teaching experience in the sciences at the secondary or higher education-level, especially medical related courses;
  • Experience with premedical advising and/or graduate programs;
  • Familiarity with hybrid learning/flipped classroom learning;
  • Familiarity with lecture capture technology and supporting online course materials; and
  • Familiarity with the practice of medicine, dentistry, or experience working in healthcare settings.
