Position Summary
Reports to the Senior Director and is responsible for communicating strategic direction & implementation of a philanthropic communications & marketing plan for internal & external audiences of the Division of Alumni, Engagement & Philanthropy. Create, execute strategies & programs that articulate the University's fundraising priorities with messaging that reflects the culture, values & achievements of the university community & celebrate the generosity & involvement of alumni & donors. Elevate & raise the visibility & profile of the dept. & forge partnerships across the institution between the Office of Public Relations and Marketing, College Deans, & other senior leadership. Focus to increase the University's share of voice in the philanthropic marketplace & work in shaping positioning, branding, & messaging to meet donor objectives.
Austin Peay State University is a four-year public, doctoral-level university, with six colleges and four Chairs of Excellence. The University has an enrollment of over 9,000 students and is located in Clarksville, Tennessee, a community of an estimated 166,000 people located approximately 40 miles northwest of Nashville, TN.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Write, as needed for print and web, feature stories, case statements, proposals and direct mail letters to facilitate major gift fundraising and stewardship.
- Serve as a principal adviser to the Vice President of Alumni, Engagement & Philanthropy on preparing communication and marketing strategy, including: institutional positioning and messaging, communication to donors and prospects, constituency relations and market segmentation.
- Develop an ongoing comprehensive philanthropic communications plan, which outlines goals, messages, and timing.
- Collaborate with University constituents to prepare multiple communication including print and electronic media- newsletters, publications, brochures, proposal development, video, case statements, volunteer materials, donor communications and campaign materials.
- Develop metrics to measure program impact and success and guide changes in strategy.
- Social Media writing
- Responsible for appropriate budget allocations for communication projects.
- Oversee communication interns and graduate assistants
- Excellent writing and reportorial skills
- Excellent strategic thinking skills.
- Expertise & experience with progressive use of digital and web-related communications. This includes strong understanding of social networking plus emerging web technologies.
- Expert communication skills.
- Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
- Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations or related field.
- A minimum of two years or experience in Journalism, Marketing copy, or related field.
- Results oriented, facts driven, high energy/drive, a positive attitude with excellent listening skills. Team player.
