Description: POSITION PURPOSE
  • Performs echocardiograms and teaches and instructs technicians and physicians in interpreting and diagnosing echocardiograms. Also performs a variety of non-invasive tests that includes, but is not limited to stress tests, EKG’s, Holter Monitoring, Event Monitoring and Pacemaker clinic. Prepares test results including transcriptions, copying, filing, and performs other related duties as needed.
  • The Lead Echo Tech communicates, collaborates and assists the Department Coordinator and/or manager regarding any department issues.  Assists staff by providing guidance and communication, including monitoring work productivity.  Assists in scheduling and monitoring daily staff performance along with departmental quality assurance and implementation of performance improvement standards for the Echo IAC accreditation. Assists with establishing and revising standard operating procedures, protocols, and creating best practices. Assists with yearly evaluations, and any other duties assigned.
  • MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED
    • High School or Equivalent (GED)
    • Associate Degree: Cardiac Sonographer in Adult Echo or Certification of completion of Accredited ARDMS or RDC adult Echo program, (Registered and Licensed to practice in the State of Wisconsin
  • MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
    • 1 to 3 years
  • LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
    • Registered as a Cardiac Sonographer.
    • Demonstrated proficiency in arrhythmia recognition and EKG course.
    • Current BLS and/or CPR certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross or the ability to obtain certification within 6 weeks of hire.
    • Completion of EKG recognition class.
    • Training as a Medical Assistant or LPN is desirable.
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED
    • Demonstrated proficiency in performing Echocardiograms preferred.
    • Knowledge of basic medical terminology and clerical function related to scheduling, order entry, record keeping and interaction with patients.
    • Ability to read, write, hear, and speak the English language fluently.
    • Must be able to demonstrate competence with all associated equipment used.
    • Demonstrate knowledge in the anatomy and physiology of the heart.
    • Ability to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, critical, unusual or dangerous situations, or situations in which work speed and sustained attention are a make or break aspect of the job.
  • PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
    1. Independently performs all aspects of echocardiogram testing and exercise echocardiography.
    2. Positive communication skills, ability to successfully interact with all customers and staff, continuous demonstration of courteous, cooperative and service oriented manner.
    3. Assist Cardiologists, Cardiac Surgeons, and Anesthesiologists with Transesophageal Echocardiograms.
    4. Scheduling appointments, by phone or in person, for Cardiac Services; providing preparation instructions for testing; accesses, enters and retrieves information from cardiac and medical information systems; ability to identify, correct, and report clerical errors and related problems, current and/or potential; performance of admitting/ registration related tasks.
    5. Receives and records verbal orders from licensed independent practitioners for orders that are specific to the services provided by their department.
    6. Administers medications and imaging agents in a timely manner, safely and in accordance with policy and procedure.
    7. Effectively communicates and collaborates with management any departmental concerns regarding intra and/or interdepartmental operational and performance improvement issues.
    8. Provides guidance to staff and monitors staff productivity.
    9. Assist in assigning staff to daily job tasks.
    10. Assists department management team in establishing and revising standard operating procedures, protocols, and best practices.
    11. Assists in staff development in orientation/training of newly hired and existing staff.
    12. Assists in monitoring staff performance on departmental quality assurance and implementation of performance improvement standards for the Echo IAC accreditation.
    13. Monitors the work performance of staff in the absence of the department Coordinator/manager.
    14. Assists the Coordinator with yearly evaluations.
    15. Assist the Coordinator with the implementation of new equipment.
    16. Maintains appropriate staffing levels in the absence of the Coordinator.
    17. Assists the Coordinator with schedule building and updating schedules in the time scheduling system including PTO/sick days and vacation and holiday distribution.
